74 preg.
Septiembre 2026“While David ___ last month, I ___ the house”.
Febrero 2026“I can’t talk right now, I ___ dinner”.
Febrero 2026“Sarah ___ very hard every day”.
Febrero 2026“Lisa usually ___ breakfast at home, but she ___ anything yesterday”.
Febrero 2026“___ there a person wearing a hat and a coat?”

every day, usually, never, always, hardly everPresente simple (hábito)Sarah studies every day.
now, right now, at the moment, Look!Presente continuo (está pasando)I am cooking right now.
yesterday, last week, in 1970, agoPasado simple (terminó)She watched the film yesterday.
tomorrow, later, next weekFuturoI will call you tomorrow.

Con he / she / it, el verbo lleva -s.

I, you, we, theyverbo baseThey play tennis.
he, she, it (o un nombre en singular)verbo + -sSam plays tennis.
Negativa y pregunta: se usa el auxiliar do (con he/she/it, does), y el verbo vuelve a su forma base.
I / you / we / theyhe / she / it
AfirmativaI workShe works
NegativaI do not workShe does not work
PreguntaDo you work?Does she work?
Ejemplo: negativa de Paul studies at Harvard
  1. El sujeto es «Paul» (él): usamos does.
  2. Ponemos does not y el verbo vuelve a base, sin -s: Paul does not study at Harvard..
Respuestas cortas: repiten el auxiliar. Does Kate know? → Yes, she does. / No, she doesn’t.. Con «to be»: Are you friends? → Yes, we are..

3El verbo to be y «there is / there are»

Am, is, are (presente). Was, were (pasado).

QuiénPresentePasado
Iamwas
he, she, itiswas
you, we, theyarewere
«To be» no usa «do». Su negativa y su pregunta se forman directamente: I am not, Are you friends?, Was she there?.
«There is / There are» (hay): there is va con un singular o con algo incontable (there is a person, there is some research). There are va con un plural (there are many books). En pasado, there was y there were.
Dos palabras que engañan: people es plural (People are nice).
Con «How many / How much»: How many + plural (How many people are there?). How much + incontable (How much money is there?).

4Presente continuo: lo que pasa ahora

am / is / are + verbo acabado en -ing.

I am cooking dinner right now.. Palabras pista: now, right now, at the moment, Look!.
QuiénAuxiliarEjemplo
IamI am sitting
he, she, itisHe is looking
you, we, theyareWe are waiting
Verbos de estado: no llevan -ing. Los verbos que expresan sentimientos, gustos, conocimiento o posesión (love, like, know, want, need, understand, have) no se usan en continuo. Se dice I love this cat, no «I am loving this cat».
El continuo también sirve para planes cercanos: When are you leaving? — Very soon..

5Pasado simple: regulares e irregulares

InfinitivoPasadoParticipio
gowentgone
comecamecome
seesawseen
taketooktaken
givegavegiven
buyboughtbought
bringbroughtbrought
fallfellfallen
growgrewgrown
stealstolestolen
rideroderidden
seeksoughtsought
hithithit
cutcutcut
havehadhad
Con «did» el verbo va en base. En negativa y en pregunta se usa did y el verbo no cambia: She didn’t watch the film. y Did she watch the film?.
Ejemplo: pasar a afirmativa de pasado He did not ride his horse
  1. Quitamos did not.
  2. Ponemos el pasado de ride: rode. Queda He rode his horse..
Participio: es la tercera columna. Se usa después de have / has (They have gone to the city) y en la pasiva.

Ejemplo: Alice ___ a long letter when we ___ home
  1. «Alice estaba escribiendo» es la acción larga: was writing.
  2. «Cuando llegamos» es la acción corta: arrived.
  3. Frase: Alice was writing a long letter when we arrived home..
The Eskimos inhabited that territory before the Vikings arrived.).
Con «while» (mientras) suele ir la acción larga: While David was recovering, I decorated the house..

7Futuro: will, going to y las frases con «when»

Y la trampa más repetida: después de when no se usa will.

FormaCuándoEjemplo
will + verbo baseDecisiones o predicciones; con tomorrow, laterShe will phone her mother.
be going to + verboUna señal clara de que va a pasar (Look at the sky)It is going to snow.
presente continuoPlanes acordadosWhen are you leaving?
La trampa: en las partes con when, as soon as, before, after, until, if o while se usa presente, aunque se hable del futuro. Nunca «will» justo detrás.
Ejemplo: She ___ her mother when she ___ to London tomorrow
  1. La acción principal es futura (tomorrow): will phone.
  2. Detrás de «when» va presente: gets.
  3. Frase: She will phone her mother when she gets to London tomorrow..
Dos errores al revés: «when she will get» (con will detrás de when) y «she phones» (sin will en la principal) están mal.

Soluciones

2. C. “Listen!” señala algo que ocurre ahora mismo: presente continuo, “is crying”.

3. B. “Last year” marca pasado. El pasado de “buy” es “bought”.

4. A. Negativa en presente con “she”: “does not” o “doesn’t”. Después, el verbo en base: “doesn’t like”.

6. C. Después de “as soon as” se usa presente, aunque hable del futuro: “get”.

7. A. “Milk” no se cuenta: se trata como singular, y “yesterday” marca pasado: “Was there”.

8. C. Después de “have” hace falta el participio: “gone”. “Went” es el pasado simple.

La chuleta de 30 segundos

  1. Busca la pista: every day / usually = presente; now / Look! = continuo; yesterday / last year = pasado; tomorrow = futuro.
  2. Presente simple: he / she / it + -s. Negativa y pregunta con do / does + verbo base.
  3. To be: am, is, are / was, were. No usa «do». There is + singular; there are + plural.
  4. Continuo: am / is / are + -ing.
  6. Después de when / as soon as / before / if: presente, nunca will.
  7. Participio (tercera columna): tras have / has. went (pasado) ≠ gone (participio).
